Avanti Theatre presents
CYMBELINE
by William Shakespeare

Cymbeline. An angry king. A scheming queen. Lovers, miscreants, hippies and an impending Italian invasion. And of course, a woman disguised as a page boy. A classic Shakespeare romance, with all the hilarity of Taming of the Shrew and all the tragedy of King Lear.

Cymbeline, one of Shakespeare’s later plays, is regarded as one of his more unusual but unequivocally brilliant plays. Dealing with themes of innocence and jealousy, the plays kaleidoscopic vigour combined with its misrepresentation as a “problem play” makes it an ideal work for revival and reinterpretation, whilst remaining faithful to Shakespeare’s extraordinary vision.

“Fear no more the heat o' the sun,
Nor the furious winter's rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone, and ta'en thy wages:
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.”
Act IV, Scene II

Ian Barritt will play King Cymbeline. Ian has acted with the RSC, NT, in the West End, made numerous screen appearances and most recently played Prospero for the Tobacco Factory

The Avanti Theatre Company’s inaugural production has a cast and crew drawn from recent graduates of such prestigious institutions as from The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), Mountview, Imperial, Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds.
